세종-송무, 클리어리-국제딜, Finnegan-IP 두각
아시아 지역의 법률매체인 ALB에 따르면, 2017년 한국시장에서의 M&A 딜은 2015년 정점을 찍은 이후 2년 연속 하락세라고 한다. 2017년 1년간 416억 달러에 이르는 360개의 M&A 딜을 기록하며 2016년의 353개 딜에서 조금 늘어나긴 했으나, 거래규모는 523억 달러에서 23.2% 줄어들었다. 그러나 여전히 딜은 많고 규모도 커지고 있다. 그만큼 한국 법률시장이 역동적이고 많은 국내외 로펌, 투자자들로부터 주목을 받고 있다. 자본시장 거래의 경우 조 단위의 초대형 IPO가 잇따라 성사되며 의미 있는 한 해로 마무리된 것이 2017년이다.
한국 시장에서의 주요 거래 등을 평가해 분야별로 '올해의 딜'과 '올해의 로펌' 등을 선정해 시상하는 'ALB Korea Law Awards'가 여섯 번째를 맞아 11월 9일 저녁 서울 남산의 그랜드 하얏트 호텔에서 2018년 시상식이 열렸다. ALB는 2017년 6월 1일부터 올 5월 말까지의 거래 등을 평가해 수상자를 가렸다고 소개했다.
모두 35개 부문으로 나눠 이루어진 시상에서 김앤장이 '규제와 컴플라이언스(Regulatory and Compliance)', '조세와 신탁(Tax and Trusts)', 'TMT', '건설과 부동산(Construction and Real Estate)' 분야에서 '올해의 로펌(Law Firm of the Year)'으로 선정되는 등 모두 10개가 넘는 상을 수상하며 2018년 '올해의 한국 로펌(Korea Law Firm of the Year)'으로 선정됐다.
또 국제중재와 M&A 분야에 특화해 비약적인 성공을 이어가고 있는 법무법인 KL 파트너스가 지난해에 이어 2년 연속 '올해의 부티크 로펌(Boutique Law Firm of the Year)'에 선정되었으며, '올해의 외국 로펌(Korea Practice Foreign Law Firm of the Year)'엔 독일 로펌인 Gleiss Lutz가 선정됐다.
법무법인 태평양은 '올해의 해외 업무 로펌(Overseas Practice Law Firm of the Year)', '올해의 한국 IP 로펌(Korea Intellectual Property Law Firm of the Year)', '올해의 국제중재 로펌(International Arbitration Law Firm of the Year)'으로 선정되는 등 로펌 분야에서만 3개 분야 상을 받았다.
법무법인 광장은 M&A 분야의 파트너인 김상곤 변호사의 '올해의 딜 메이커' 선정과 함께 '올해의 코리아 딜 로펌(Korea Deal Firm of the Year)'으로 선정됐다. 광장은 '올해의 노동 로펌(Labour and Employment Law Firm of the Year)'으로도 선정됐다.
'올해의 송무 로펌(Litigation Law Firm of the Year)'엔 법무법인 세종이 선정됐다.
한국시장에서 M&A와 자본시장 거래 등을 많이 수행하는 클리어리 가틀립(Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton)은 '올해의 국제딜 로펌(International Deal Firm of the Year)'으로 선정됐다.
'올해의 해상 로펌(Maritime Law Firm of the Year)'엔 법무법인 대륙아주가, '올해의 가족법 로펌(Matrimonial and Family Law Firm of the Year)'엔 IBS법률사무소가, '올해의 국제 IP 로펌(International Intellectual Property Law Firm of the Year)'엔 Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner가 선정됐다. 또 허버트 스미스 프리힐즈(Herbert Smith Freehills)가 '올해의 프로젝트와 에너지, 인프라 로펌(Projects, Energy and Infrastructure Law Firm of the Year)'으로 선정되었다.
개인 부문에서도 올해 두각을 나타낸 여러 명이 상을 받아 법무법인 율촌의 김세연 변호사가 '올해의 여성변호사(Woman Lawyer of the Year)' 상을, 허버트 스미스 프리힐즈의 Mike McClure는 '올해의 분쟁해결 변호사(Dispute Resolution Lawyer of the Year)' 상을 받았다.
'올해의 매니징 파트너(Managing Partner of the Year)'엔 김앤장의 정계성 변호사가 선정되어 수상했으며, '올해의 인하우스 로이어(In-House Lawyer of the Year)'엔 검사 출신인 CJ그룹의 강호성 변호사가 선정됐다.
미래에셋팀, '올해의 한국 인하우스팀' 선정
미래에셋팀이 '올해의 한국 인하우스팀(Korea In-House Team of the Year)'으로 선정되었으며, '올해의 혁신 인하우스팀(Innovative In-House Team of the Year)'엔 마이크로소프트 법무실이 선정됐다.
'TMT 분야의 올해의 인하우스팀(Technology, Media and Telecommunications In-House Team of the Year)'엔 구글이, '올해의 건설 및 중공업 인하우스팀(Construction and Heavy Industries In-House Team of the Year)'엔 한국전력 인하우스팀이 선정되었다. '소매와 제조업 인하우스팀(Retail and Manufacturing In-House Team of the Year)'엔 Schneider Electric 팀이 선정됐다.
ALB는 김현 대한변협 회장, 이완근 한국사내변호사회 회장, 김준기 연세대 로스쿨 교수, 허성욱 서울대 로스쿨 교수 등 모두 29명으로 이루어진 평가단(Judges)의 평가를 거쳐 분야별 최고의 성적을 거둔 수상자를 선정했다고 밝혔다. 평가단엔 특히 사내변호사들이 많이 참여했으며, 일부 로펌의 변호사도 평가단의 일원으로 참여했다.
